Abstract

Medical research is increasingly integrating biological, clinical, environmental, and behavioral information to support personalized and preventive healthcare. Advances in artificial intelligence (AI), multi-omics, digital health, wearable biosensors, microbiome science, liquid biopsy, organoid technology, regenerative medicine, and nanomedicine are expanding opportunities to investigate disease mechanisms and develop individualized diagnostic and therapeutic strategies. This review examines these emerging approaches, their potential applications, and the challenges affecting their translation into clinical practice. Multi-omics integrates molecular information across biological layers to characterize disease heterogeneity, while AI facilitates the analysis of complex datasets for diagnosis, drug discovery, surveillance, and clinical decision support. Digital health platforms and wearable sensors enable longitudinal monitoring beyond conventional healthcare settings, potentially supporting earlier recognition of clinically relevant changes. Liquid biopsy offers minimally invasive access to circulating biomarkers, particularly in oncology, whereas organoids provide experimental models for investigating tissue biology, disease processes, and treatment responses. Microbiome research, regenerative approaches, and nanomedicine offer further avenues for understanding host–microbial interactions, restoring tissue function, and improving therapeutic delivery. Despite these opportunities, implementation remains constrained by variable data quality, limited reproducibility, interoperability barriers, privacy concerns, regulatory uncertainty, cost, and unequal access. Prospective clinical validation, transparent reporting, appropriate ethical oversight, and interdisciplinary collaboration are essential to establish clinical utility. Integrating these approaches may strengthen exploratory and translational research, provided that technological innovation is accompanied by robust evidence of patient benefit.
